FESTIVAL GAROSNOW 2022 - Pyrenees Tour Music & Ride

Some like to party in summer, others in winter, and still others love both: hello, that's us! When we saw the prog from Garosnow pass by, we jumped at the chance to party on skis. The festival spanning two weekends in two different resorts, we opt for the first stage which takes place in the Pyrénées Orientales at Les Angles resort. Put on your fleeces, your helmets and your skis, and come hit the slopes with us, to the music!
Day 1. Thursday March 10. 6:00 p.m., access to the festival, quite a journey
Our Garosnow adventure starts on Thursday. The festival being held in Les Angles, in the Pyrenees, from Lyon, you will have to take the TGV to Paris, then the night train from Paris to Latour de Carol, and finally a shuttle to Mont-Louis then the Les Angles station. A well-studied route, so that our wallet is not impacted forever. Don't go to Garosnow on a whim: to attend, you have to want it, and above all plan for it.
Day 2. Friday March 11. 11:30 a.m., arrival safely
Here we are. Snow-capped mountains, fresh air, short ski holidays, to music! We are won over by the small resort of Les Angles. We managed to find a rare commodity at the last minute for this weekend: a small room in a stopover gîte located in the heights of the village, the Gîte Azimut. Our host, Casa, welcomes us with open arms. We are half-board, so we will be entitled to his dishes concocted with care in the evening. It also turns out that he knows the station like the back of his hand, and he is even the one who gives us information about the festival.
10:57 p.m., it's party time in the village
To get to the concert hall, we walk about thirty minutes. There are no shuttles at this time and we don't have a car to get around. At the entrance, the search is muscular. The auditorium, which turns out to be a former ice rink, can accommodate up to 1,200 seats, with bleachers at the back, a sound/light control room in the center, and the stage in front. There is also a large bar area that runs along one entire side of the room. In the public, it is largely local: we recognize Vincent, who rented us the sliding equipment in the afternoon, Casa, our host, the young woman who managed the carpet on the slopes, the Mayor of the town, or even the apprentice pharmacist... We quickly realize that Garosnow is the village festival. For the opening, it's DJ Esteban who is on the decks because the Booboo'zzz All Stars set has been canceled.
11:23 p.m., Garosnow “moves its ulc”
For us, Biga*Ranx (photo) live was a first. We therefore discovered his thunderous energy, and his raps that make the crowd crazy. On stage, the guy dances as much as his audience and sets fire to such an extent that we are led to discover the usefulness of the bleachers at the end of the concert after having hopped without interruption. We salute the good work on the visuals and the lights. We will learn the next day on the slopes, talking with Anthony, a young man from the region who attended the previous edition of Garosnow, that the festival has made a point of honor on the play of light, an artifice that was little satisfying previous years according to
12:56 a.m., after a high, there is a low
It is the turn of Mézigue and Mad Rey (photo) to take possession of the premises with BPM for a b2b which, on paper, was promising. The first sounds are launched, it hits, we find the style of the two artists, but we find no cohesion. The transitions are a little more brutal, one has the impression that one is trying to cut the other. The two aesthetics do not meet but fight. We give them the benefit of the doubt, but we end up listening with a distracted ear from the bleachers. The public does not seem too disoriented and we say to ourselves that we are perhaps (already!) old fashioned...?
1h34, keep us in suspense for a snorkeling
NTO, here is one that made everyone agree! As soon as he enters the stage, we feel the excitement of the crowd who throw their glasses in the air. The artist connects titles from his latest album “Apnea”, we see that he is having fun and his energy is communicating. Melodic techno is unquestionably his thing. It is past 2 a.m. and the evening is stretching beyond the allotted time. At the end of his set, the public calls for him. He returns to the stage to revive the party but as soon as his piece has begun, the management cuts the sound. It's time to go home kids!
Day 2. Saturday March 12. 9:50 am, Earth, Wind & Snow - let's groove today

The slopes belong to people who get up early, and the resort shuttle passes at 10:00 a.m. near our accommodation. After 2/3 warm-up laps, we decide to take the gondolas to climb to 2108 m at the altitude restaurant “Le Chalet” where a good part of the DJ sets take place. As soon as you get off the ski lift, you can already hear the music. At the foot of the chalet, a small tent under which Nico Rodas is mixing. He connects groovy sounds which, despite the snow, give us the feeling of being in the sun. We didn't ask for better to recover quietly from the evening of the day before! 1h37, the pillar of the French Touch is in place 1:07 p.m., let’s ride to music! By straining your ears, you hear music coming from a little lower down, from the snowpark. We discover a snow competition, but also a DJ set. It is S-Ven (photo) who is there to entertain the competitors and passing skiers. He also plays very groovy and disco hits, accompanied by the competition commentator. He almost made us want to get on the slopes with the pros, when we clearly don't have the level, and boosted us to ride the green slope from which we hear the sound
2:42 p.m., time to take a break

Return to the Chalet for lunch, with the end of Nico Rodas' set. The dishes offered are all mountain, and we opt for two beef sandwiches accompanied by homemade fries and 2 draft beers. There are many people who stopped at the restaurant to enjoy the music. Leaving, we find Jeanfi and the sun. The first launches his set with One More Time and the crowd does not ask for more to start the first dance steps. People are mostly apres ski so would have come up on purpose to see it and didn't come down from the slopes. Jeanfi enjail the crowd, he whistles, and the crowd is well heated. We did not expect so much for our moment of digestion!
11:37 p.m., after the powder, the powpow
After a good meal concocted by our host Casa and a (long) technical nap, we put on our ski pants, our fleeces and we try hitchhiking from our cottage to get to the concert hall. 15 min of patience and a local stops, happy to drop us off. On site, there are fewer people than the day before. It is Blaiz Fayah (photo) who sings, accompanied by DJ Glad with whom he has already collaborated. The rapper rocks riddims, moves on stage and engages the crowd. He has energy to spend and the rapid sequences of his texts are not enough. About halfway through his concert, we are trained to twerk by two dancers on stage. The young audience is on the job and already a little more tipsy.
12:15 a.m., it's time for surprises
As soon as the concert is over, the No Name Brass band starts behind us. She will take care of entertaining us during the change of set. The crowd rushes towards the musicians and sings “La Tribu de Dana” and other nuggets from their diversified repertoire. A good way to pass the time before the concert of Georgio (photo) who tumbles along accompanied by his magical "Swiss knife" Peter, on guitar and keyboards. He will approach a wide range of his repertoire revisited in “club formula”. The explosively energetic artist doesn't hesitate to stop and tease the audience when he feels he's not making enough noise, makes them do walls of death, and goes so far as to improvise a rap and an excluded text, to kill time during a technical breakdown. In the distance, we see in the stands a few accompanying parents, who are not necessarily in their element...
